Teacher's Corner (By Mr. Singer): Happy character day and Movie night to everyone. As you might have heard today is favorite character day and we had several people dress up for the part. Check out our pictures page to see some of the characters we had in the class. This week we also finished our testing of the thermos prototypes in science. I have also included pictures on there too.
Our MAP results have been submitted from last week into the system and I have gone through all of the results. If you are interested in a copy of your student’s mid-year progress let me know and I will print a copy off. This test is more of a check-up test for us as teachers to see if the students are on track or not.
On February 9th we will be taking a “field trip” to Fox River to see a presentation on internet safety. The presentation will be with the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students all together. Mr. Dembosky will be/has sending out more information in an email on this.
Looking forward - At the end of February we will be starting the Iditarod unit where the students will follow the Last Great Race in Alaska, learn about the great state, and get to know the history of the race. As we get closer we will give more information to you. If you want to do some of your own research go to the Iditarod website.
Also, our teacher-requested conferences will be coming up this month too. If you do not receive a requested conference, but still want to meet to discuss the progress of your student we will have some open spots available to meet. Letters will be going home in the next two weeks.
For upcoming important dates, including days off, PTO events, etc. go to our Calendar. This coming week is very busy with PTO events.
Make sure you are staying connected with our Remind alert system and following the class on Twitter. Find both feeds shown on our website, www.mrsinger.weebly.com. If you are not signed up on either you can do so on the website. Contact me if you have any questions on doing this. I have also added pictures to our pictures page too.
Remember to check the assignment notebook board daily for homework updates.
BONUS: Since the Iditarod is approaching at the start of March it is time to give you some weekly trivia about the “Last Great Race.” Let’s see how you do. What year did Congress designate the Iditarod Trail a National Historic Trail (just like the Ice Age Trail). An answer by Monday by email or in the assignment notebook, or in a note form, will earn you or your student $50! Good Luck!!!
