Free Choice Area (By Maddy): Thursday and Friday, we have Parent/Teacher Conferences. Thursday is a half day and we have no school on Friday.
Teacher's Corner (By Mr. Singer): This week seemed shorter than other weeks…. I wonder why? Of course today is not Friday, it is Thursday. Since we have parent-teacher conferences tonight we will not have school tomorrow. I hope everyone enjoys the extra day and a half off this week. I did want to give a special goodbye to one of our students, Ava. Today is her last day at Trailside and she will be starting at a new school next week. Good luck to Ava in her new adventures.
Today we will be having conferences, and our schedule from 2-8 is packed! Noel and myself will be set up in the library, just like in October. Please enter through the main entrance of the library (by the office) and take a seat in the waiting area we created. We will then have you join us at the table when it is your turn. There might be other people at the conferences as well. Some of the intervention teachers and school counselor will stop in when they are available. We do have time between 2:30-3:30 where we are able to meet with anyone who wants to stop in and talk about the status of their child. All other times are taken. Since the schedule is so packed please make sure to be on time, or 5 minutes early, for the conferences.
Today we will be starting the Iditarod unit where the students will follow the Last Great Race in Alaska, learn about the great state, and get to know the history of the race. Students will be doing special readings on the Iditarod, creating fantasy teams to follow during our Idita-read competition, creating a wall map of the race, make trail food (GORP) and we will end the unit watching Iron Will and doing a comparative writing piece with the video. If you want to do some of your own research go to the Iditarod website.
For upcoming important dates, including days off, PTO events, etc. go to our Calendar. This coming week is very busy with PTO events.
Make sure you are staying connected with our Remind alert system and following the class on Twitter. Find both feeds shown on our website, www.mrsinger.weebly.com. If you are not signed up on either you can do so on the website. Contact me if you have any questions on doing this. I have also added pictures to our pictures page too.
Remember to check the assignment notebook board daily for homework updates.
BONUS: Since the Iditarod is approaching at the start of March it is time to give you some weekly trivia about the “Last Great Race.” The last person to complete the race in a season is given a special award. What is it called? An answer by Monday by email or in the assignment notebook, or in a note form, will earn you or your student $50! Good Luck!!!
