News from the Science department (By Brianna): In science this week we worked on projects. Our projects were based off of kids with Cerebral palsy. We had to design a toy to help them build up muscle memory and strengthen the muscles that Cerebral palsy attacked.
News from the Social Studies Department (By Audriana): For the past 2-3 weeks we have been working on the culture fair projects. It took about 2 weeks for research and laying out our tri-folds, we also are working on our websites for the culture fair. Mr.Singer’s class has been discussing what to bring for food for the culture fair. Mr.Singer’s culture fair is on Wednesday June, 6th, 2018, Mrs.Topp’s culture fair is on Monday June, 3rd, 2018. It is being held at Trailside Elementary School, at 9:00-10:00 am. Have a good Summer Break!
News from the Math Department (By Talon, The Best Meme): This year there has been a lot of stuff to cover, but with our awesome math teacher we did it. Here is some of the stuff we did.Today we worked on finding area of irregular rectangles and parallelograms. We also about a week ago made giant graphs about a topic we wanted to see what people thought. Mine was favorite songs but some that other people did was favorite sports, bands, pets, and types of pie. There were lots of varieties of research. My favorite by far is when we are done with work, not an insult to Mr. Singer. I hope you have a amazing summer break and into the scary place called Middle School.
News from the English/Language Arts Department (By Sydney): In ELA we are working on our Culture fair projects. We have to pick a country from our heritage and then we have to see how we are connected to our family tree. And now we are working on our tri-fold.
News from the Music Department (By Allie): In music we have a drum circle and we made up songs that had to be 70 seconds to 2 minutes with our group. It was fun. We are going to be doing that for the rest the year. There are all kinds of different instruments. Drums, Buffalo drums, tubanos, Shakers, and Bells.
News from the Physical Education Department (By Lucy): In Phy Ed we have had these groups with different sports we usually wouldn’t play. We would have to teach each other the sports we got. The sports were Kindball, Tchoukball, Speedball, Longball, and Ultimate Frisbee.
News from the Art Department (By Molly): This year we have learned how to draw animals and self-portraits and after that we made a paper mache and wire project but later on the last art we had we had to draw us in 15 to 20 years. But the thing is we were not allowed to use any words or letters we could only use numbers and art. I think that most of use had a really fun time with this project and I am just really sad that we are done with art and going in for art I just hope that we can have at least 1 or 2 more art classes. But anyways that all that we did the the art class this year but we might have some other projects at home for you so that's all, bye.
Free Choice Area (By Avery): Hello, what's up? I have no clue what to say. Have a good weekend and enjoy yourself! YEEEEET.
Teacher's Corner (By Mr. Singer and Mrs. Topp): Well, we made it! Summer is less than a week away for the students, and then it is on to Fox River in the fall. We just want to start out by saying thank you to all the families for their support and dedication to your child’s learning. The help from home makes a difference in the learning of the students. When we work as a team from home to school the united front can be seen in the results, so thank you.
On Monday for Topp’s class, and Wednesday for Singer’s class there will be the culture fair presentations. They will run from 9am to 10 am. Mrs. Topp has sent out an email home for the specifics on the event.
Two things math related were sent home today. The first was the results of the multiplication facts tests results from the year for APTT. The second is the 6th grade math workbook that was intended for extra practice. Those students who complete the form and send it in to Mrs. Lindner next year will get something in return.
On our last day of school we will be sending home the final report card of the year. Grades will be finalized on Wednesday so we can ensure they will be on time. AND SPEAKING OF THE LAST DAY…
The other day Mr. Dembosky sent the following in an email to families: On Thursday, June 7th we will have our 6th grade memory walk prior to dismissal. Our 6th graders will take a walk down memory lane through the wings to say goodbye to Trailside. The other students will be out in the wings cheering them on and wishing them well on their adventure to middle school. Families are welcome to come and stand in the front main hallway to greet their future 7th grader. The walk will start at 11:20 and there will be plenty of room so there is no need to arrive prior to 11:15. Please park in the parking lot and not in the loop.
AND….. It’s almost auction time and we are looking for donations for our biannual classroom auction. Students have been earning money for being positive and taking responsibility for their learning.
If you are interested in helping make the event a success, we are in need of your help. We have received a decent amount of items from donors thus far, but we are still in need of a few items for the upcoming auction.
If you have any of the following items that would be of interest to sixth graders we would be glad to take them:
- Rummage sale items
- Used books
- Baked goods
- Business donations
- Gift cards
- Soda/Candy
- Etc.
Please send your donations with your child to his/her homeroom teacher by Wednesday, June, 6th (unless you are sending baked goods, those can be send on the morning of the auction. Our auction will be held on the morning of June 7th.
In addition to checking your child’s grades on Skyward, please also periodically (at least once a week) check your child’s assignment book. The assignment book is a helpful tool to see what students are doing in class and checking if there are notes for upcoming events or messages from us.
Dates to remember:
June 5th Carnival and 3rd trimester incentive (movie), grades close
June 7th Early Release Day, Last Day of School, 6th Grade Parade, and AUCTION

Please make an effort to join our Remind account and/or Class Dojo to keep up with information, behavior concerns, and other photos and stories from our classes. For remind to go www.remind.com/join/bradsinger and for class dojo go to www.classdojo.com/CT7L92M. Mrs. Topp and Mr. Singer will update through these two resources all year. Currently we are at 92% of the families connected with us on DoJo.
Throughout the year Mr. Singer will post pictures on our pictures page of the website too. Check out what is going on in the classroom. He also post what is going on on twitter through the Twitter handle @MrSingerClass.
BONUS: Each week we will put a challenge on here for any parent or student to try. All you have to do is give a response by Monday in the assignment notebook for us to see. If the answer is correct the student will receive $50 towards their checking account. Good Luck!
What is the one thing you, or your family, will be doing this summer?
