We still have a few families to sign up for conferences. If you are having trouble signing up, or noticed that all the spots are taken, please contact us. We are willing to do conferences on other nights or mornings that work better for your schedules. Since we both share your kids about 50/50 it is nice to meet with both of us at the same time. Please return your conference form to Mrs. Wanasek or I if you need to sign up still.
This week we continued our ALICE trainings. ALICE is our safety program and it stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. Each week we will work with our students to make sure they are safe. Below is the lesson that was conducted this week for ALICE. Please take time to discuss the lesson with your children.
6th Grade - ALICE Lesson Six: Counter - Distract
Lesson Goals: Understand the effectiveness of distraction. Understand and be able to distract an intruder by shouting and throwing objects.
Lesson Recap: In this lesson, students watched a video that can be accessed here. After, there was a discussion about focus and how easily it is to be distracted. At this point, students were introduced to the concept of distraction as a form of counter, one of the ALICE options.
Ask your child what he/she could use to distract a dangerous person where you are sitting right now. Your child should be able to easily notice things that can be thrown at the intruder in order to distract and evacuate safely.
We also had our first ALICE drill of the week on Wednesday. Please talk with your child about what we did, and how it went. The more we can communicate about what is going on with these drills, the better we can be prepared if it does happen.
