Teacher's Corner (By Mr. Singer and Mrs. Topp): Here comes the cold! As we get colder and colder we ask that you help the students stay healthy and warm by dressing properly for the weather. Please make sure they kids have a jacket, gloves, and hat when coming to school. We have had a few students need to “stay in to do work at recess” because they have not come prepared for the weather.
Here are the ALICE lesson from last week.
- 6th Grade - ALICE Lesson Nine: Decision
- Lesson Goal: When faced with a threat, make a decision to lockdown, evacuate, or counter.
- Lesson Recap: Students practiced decision-making using the options that ALICE provides. Using a mock scenario of a dangerous person gaining entry to the school office, students decided on a course of action based on the location of the classroom. After, the same scenario was presented, but using different locations within the school. Again, the teacher and students discussed options in order to reach safety.
- You can talk with your child about the lesson by asking him/her to describe what the scenario was and then answering any questions they may have. You can also assure them that the adults will always do whatever it takes to keep them safe, but they now know how to best keep safe on their own.
Students will have off on November 22-24 this month. Teachers have a work day on the 22nd and then it is the extended Thanksgiving weekend. For information on upcoming events you can see our calendar page from our website too.
Please make an effort to join our Remind account and/or Class Dojo to keep up with information, behavior concerns, and other photos and stories from our classes. For remind to go www.remind.com/join/bradsinger and for class dojo go to www.classdojo.com/CT7L92M. Mrs. Topp and Mr. Singer will update through these two resources all year. Currently we are at 88% of the families connected with us on DoJo.
Throughout the year Mr. Singer will post pictures on our pictures page of the website too. Check out what is going on in the classroom. He also post what is going on on twitter through the Twitter handle @MrSingerClass.
Remember to check the assignment notebook board daily for homework and quick notes. We go through this with the students daily, but sometimes they do forget.
BONUS: Each week we will put a challenge on here for any parent or student to try. All you have to do is give a response by Monday in the assignment notebook for us to see. If the answer is correct the student will receive $50 towards their checking account. Good Luck!
There are two zodiac signs for the month of November. What are they?
