Electronic Reading Devices at School
At a recent meeting with all building principals within the school district, it was decided to allow students to bring personal electronic reading devices (e-readers) to school. Independent reading is a daily activity within our classrooms. Students often have time to read both assigned books from their teacher or free reading time with books of their own choosing. Many of our 21st century students have their own personal books to read as electronic books and therefore, the e-readers will be allowed at school. Any student who chooses to bring a personal e-reader from home will only be able to use it for reading during the time designated by the classroom teacher. Playing games, accessing the internet, etc. will not be allowed on these devices. The e-readers will be used for reading only. Students not following these guidelines for e-readers will receive the following consequence. The first time there will be a detention and the loss of their e-reader privilege for one week. The second time will be a detention and the loss of their e-reader privilege for the remainder of the school year. Also, the school or district assumes no responsibility for e-readers brought to school that are lost, damaged, or stolen. The e-readers are not required for school. E-readers are now approved to be at school for the purpose of reading only but are the complete responsibility of the student.
