After next week I WILL NOT be checking the assignment notebook anymore for signatures. You are still welcome to put notes in the notebook because we still expect the students to use the notebook, just do not need to check that all of us are checking them daily. This is one of the first steps to making them independent for next year.
Finally, I wanted to repost the email I sent the other day explaining our Hour of Code day we will be celebrating this next week on Wednesday:
We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and less students are studying it than a decade ago.
That’s why the entire sixth grade is joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 7-13). More than 100 million students worldwide have already tried an Hour of Code.
Our Hour of Code is a statement that Trailside and Waterford Graded is ready to teach these foundational 21st century skills. To continue bringing programming activities to your students, we want to make our Hour of Code event huge. I encourage you to volunteer, reach out to local media, share the news on social media channels and consider hosting additional Hour of Code events in the community.
This is a chance to change the future of education in the Waterford area.
See http://hourofcode.com/us for details, and help spread the word.
For upcoming important dates, including days off, PTO events, etc. go to our Calendar.
Make sure you are staying connected with our Remind alert system and following the class on Twitter. Find both feeds shown on our website, www.mrsinger.weebly.com. If you are not signed up on either you can do so on the website. Contact me if you have any questions on doing this. I have also added pictures to our pictures page too.
Remember to check the assignment notebook board daily for homework updates.
BONUS: On Monday include a note for a reward in the assignment notebook, or email me. What was the first musical CD pressed in the USA? Name the musician/band and the title of the CD? I look forward to seeing how many respond. P.S. who buys CDs still? Am I the only one?
