News from the Social Studies Department (By Lori): We are learning about geography. We partner up and read out of the textbooks, then we write out answers to a question on a paper or in our notebooks. Every new week we get a packet and it says Monday, Tuesday, etc. and a challenge. Each day we complete what is under the day you are on. Then you have to do the challenge, whatever day you want to, but it has to be finished by Friday.
News from the Math Department (By Halle): This week in math we learned the algorithms for addition, subtraction, and multiplication in the bignning of the week on Learnzillion.com. Towards the end of the week, we learned the algorithm for division on Learnzilion.com. We wrote all of the steps in our IN9’s and we answered questions about the videos we watched.
News from the Reading Department (By Desirae): This week for reading we did a comprehension sheet for each day to warm up and get started. We also read an article about this girl named Emily and how she saw the twin towers go down, and she was just about the same age as me. Another thing we did for reading was that we silent read.
News from the Music Department (By Quinn): This week in Music class, we learned about how music relates to reading. We did an activity where we wrote down examples on a piece of paper and placed it down in the right category of music (vocal, instrumental, & reading).
News from the Physical Education Department (By Justyce): This week in gym we are doing socker and we are working on how to dribble. We are also working on and practicing for push ups and sit ups.
News from the Art Department (ByTorie): This week in art we made an eye or a (dragons eye). We get to shade, and smooth the pencil marks, and get to erase with a doughy like eraser.
Free Choice Area (By Haley): 9/11 (yesterday) was picture day and I think the pictures will turn out AWESOME! In my opinion I think we should have done picture day on a warmer day. :)
Teacher's Corner (By Mr. Singer):
The first full week of school is in the books, and it looks like the warm weather is too. We had a very productive week and everyone earned this well deserved weekend break. We began out MAPs testing this week, and many kids still need to complete their math portion of the test sometime this next week. We will then begin the reading portion this next week too. Once we have the results of the first test I will send them home for everyone to look over. We will discuss the results at conferences but if you have questions prior please let me know.
On our pictures page I will post things we are doing in class. I will try to also put other examples of work on there too that are either pictures or video. Make sure you check that link every once and a while. The other way to see the pictures is to go to my Flickr account directly too. The link is https://www.flickr.com/photos/bradsinger/.
Next week we will continue the MAPs testing benchmark work. Every year we take the MAPs test three times to evaluate the progress of the students. For more information on MAPs, click here. Also be aware there is a PTO Meeting on Wednesday. It starts at 6pm every month. Please make it. For more on the PTO here at Trailside, visit their website.
For upcoming important dates, including days off, Market Day pick up, etc. go to our Calendar. There will also be a sakte night at Traxside on Thursday, October 2nd and on Friday the 3rd it will be an early release day. We end at 11:30 on those days. Plan accordingly.
I wanted to inform everyone of one more communication tool that I implemented into our school community to use. Along with the Remind101 text system we now have a Twitter account for the class. Go to www.twitter.com/mrsingerclass to see news and updates from the school day, etc. I am posting pictures, reminders, educational resources, etc. You can also gain access by clicking on the Twitter tab in the top right corner of our website, www.mrsinger.weebly.com. PLEASE stay connected to what we are doing in our classroom.
Remember to check the assignment notebook board daily for homework updates.
