Last night was our third night of APTT, Academic Parent-Teacher Teams, and I wanted to thank all the families who came. We had 14 families from 6th grade attend my classroom for math. It was great to be able to compare your child’s data to that of their peers and work to set up goals of how to improve over the next two and a half months in math. I hope those families enjoy the game I handed out as well to work on division at home. I know there were a few families that said they could not make it, but were still wanting to find a time to stop in and grab the data/materials. Please email me at [email protected], od Dojo message me when we can make that happen. Again thanks for the support and dedication you are making to your child’s education and the teamwork between us.
Being next week is Valentine’s Day, I wanted to give you a heads up on what we are doing to “celebrate.” Last last half hourish of the day I will let the kids have a “party” and we can enjoy the holiday. If you child is interested in doing Valentines for their peers, I ask that the kids do one for each kid in the class. Have your child let me know and I can supply them with a class list. If any kids are interested in bringing in a treat for that day, please bring one for each kid as well.
With all the snow days we had recently there was a lot of talk about possibly using some of our in-service days to bring kids back to school as well, and if you haven’t heard yet that will NOT need to be done. So, the upcoming teacher days in February will stay as such. Kids will still have off the 22nd and 25th. February 21 is also going to be a half day. Remember, that since we are doing the APTT nights at school there will not be any conferences on February 21. If you would like to meet about your child and you did not attend one of the APTT night and want to have a conference, you need to contact Mrs. Wanasek or I to possibly set up a time before or after school in the coming weeks.
Coming up in April will be our 2nd annual STEM day at Trailside! As part of the STEM committee I am happy to be helping plan this day. By February 21st we will be asking for your help to get your child to share with us what activities they will want to do that day. Mr. Dembosky will probably be sending out a message to all families soon to have you sit down and register for the classes. It should take less than 5 minutes to read the descriptions and pick the top choices.
Dates to remember:
February 21 Early Release day - 11:30
February 22 No School
February 25 No School
February 27 Monday Schedule
March 22 Early Release
For information on upcoming events you can see our calendar page from our website too. Please take some time each week to go on Skyward and see how your child is doing in school. This will help us work better as a team to know where your child is at, and where we may need some help.
Check out what is going on in the classroom. He also post what is going on on twitter through the Twitter handle @MrSingerClass. If you do not have Twitter, don’t worry, you can see the thread on the homepage of the class website.
Do not forget to register on Class Dojo to keep up-to-date with notes from the teachers, the behavior of your child, and more. If you need me to print another flyer, or send you an email invite, let me know.
BONUS: Each week we will put a challenge on here for any parent or student to try. All you have to do is give a response by Monday in the assignment notebook for us to see. If the answer is correct the student will receive $50 towards their checking account. Good Luck!
With Groundhog day being this past week I am going to make today’s bonus related to this “holiday.” Punxsutawney Phil has been predicting spring for about 120 years. What is the percentage of the time is he actually correct, according to livescience.com.
