News from the Social Studies Department (By Jack): In Social Studies we are doing a project on decades and we each get a decade. I think its cool because I got the 1930s.

Teacher's Corner (By Mr. Singer and Mrs. Topp): January is almost done and we are now halfway through the school year! We have a lot left to do this year and we have many changes on the horizon too. Speaking of changes, tonight is Skate Night at Traxside. Stop at Traxside for some fun and help Trailside make money.
Please make sure you are taking some time to read these newsletter to hear what is coming up so you are prepared. Also, take a little time each week to be checking Skyward too so you know if your child is up-to-date on their work or if they have missing work. Monday was our halfway point for the second trimester. Make sure to check your child’s grades this weekend. Anyone who has not checked the grades this week/weekend will get a reminder letter on Monday.
On Monday we are going to be going back to the Dojo points system (3 points a day and working to keep them) for the students to work to earn an incentive after two weeks. If students are able to keep 80% or more of their provided points they will be able to participate in a choice time (extra recess, tech time, etc.). We will also be starting to send home late work forms too. If students collect any late work for the day, they will have to take a form home that needs to be signed and returned as a contract stating they have late work and need to get it done. This should be a heads up to the students that they are being held accountable for not getting their work done on time as this is still an issue in 6th grade and we do not want this to continue next year in middle school.
Coming up on March will be our first STEAM day. Please be on the lookout for an email from Mr. Dembosky on what help we will need on that day. We will be looking for parent volunteers, and donations of STEAM items (cardboard, glue, wire, etc.). As we get closer there will be another email for you and your child to go over together to sign up for activities they want to participate in.
For information on upcoming events you can see our calendar page from our website too.
Please make an effort to join our Remind account and/or Class Dojo to keep up with information, behavior concerns, and other photos and stories from our classes. For remind to go www.remind.com/join/bradsinger and for class dojo go to www.classdojo.com/CT7L92M. Mrs. Topp and Mr. Singer will update through these two resources all year. Currently we are at 88% of the families connected with us on DoJo.
Throughout the year Mr. Singer will post pictures on our pictures page of the website too. Check out what is going on in the classroom. He also post what is going on on twitter through the Twitter handle @MrSingerClass.
BONUS: Each week we will put a challenge on here for any parent or student to try. All you have to do is give a response by Monday in the assignment notebook for us to see. If the answer is correct the student will receive $50 towards their checking account. Good Luck!
What two months begin on the same day of the week every year?
