This week we continued our ALICE trainings. ALICE is our safety program and it stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. Each week we will work with our students to make sure they are safe. Below is the lesson that was conducted this week for ALICE. Please take time to discuss the lesson with your children.
6th Grade - ALICE Lesson Nine: Decision
Lesson Goal: When faced with a threat, make a decision to lockdown, evacuate, or counter
Lesson Recap: Students practiced decision-making using the options that ALICE provides. Using a mock scenario of a dangerous person gaining entry to the school office, students decided on a course of action based on the location of the classroom. After, the same scenario was presented, but using different locations within the school.
Again, the teacher and students discussed options in order to reach safety. You can talk with your child about the lesson by asking him/her to describe what the scenario was and then answering any questions they may have. You can also assure them that the adults will always do whatever it takes to keep them safe, but they now know how to best keep safe on their own.
