News from the Social Studies Department (By Delaney): In Social Studies we have learned the 5 geography names. Movement, Regions, Human Environment interactions, Locations, and Place.
News from the Math Department (By Jasmine): This week in math we watched a video on Edpuzzle. I liked it because we did it together.
News from the English/Language Arts Department (By Sonya): This week in ELA we read the Ravine. The book was very descriptive and detailed.
News from the Music Department (By Soren): We are having a great time. Also, we are singing and doing Percussion.
News from the Physical Education Department (By Erica): This week in Phy Ed. I didn't really get to do anything because of my foot, but watching others I realized it seems really fun to run and play the flag game. I also noticed teamwork through some games.
News from the Art Department (By Gabriella): On Tuesday we started a Mandala inspired by International Dot Day. We are going to make the Mandala using all different types of puffy paint.
Free Choice Area (By Jorell): This week in science we are trying to make a model foot orthosis.
Teacher's Corner (By Mr. Singer): Week two is in the books and the learning, and homework, is in full swing. The students have been working on being responsible, respectful, and safe here at Trailside. Oh, and yes, we have also had a few checks written in class already. It has been a good week and we worked hard to deserve the weekend.
This week we started doing our ALICE trainings. ALICE is our safety program and it stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. Each week we will work with our students to make sure they are safe. I will include in our newsletter a overview of our lesson each week, too.
6th Grade - ALICE Lesson One: Intro. ALICE
Lesson Goal: Understand the concepts of ALICE.
Lesson Recap: The five options in ALICE were introduced: Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. Students brainstormed different ways that they could alert and inform others of an emergency.
