News from the Social Studies Department (By Natalie): This week in social studies we learned about geography. What we learned about is latitude, longitude, and the distance around the Earth, and a lot more. For example of what we did is Mrs.Topp would give us the definition and we would have to find the word that matches with it. And then we would flip flop and Mrs.Topp would give as the word and we would right the definition. Heres one I wrote cardinal is the directions ore north, east, south, and west. So that what we learned for social studies this week.
News from the Math Department (By Zane): We did Roman numerals. We wrote 1 thru 100 in Roman numerals.We did a pre test. We did a quiz on Roman numerals.
News from the English/Language Arts Department (By Rowan): We did worldly wise and corrected it. We also started to write our auction letters.
News from the Music Department (By Sydney): We went on a app on google docs. It is called flat, We made the C Major Scale we were told to copy it off the Smartboard.
News from the Physical Education Department (By Audriana): Hello World! You are going to read the department of Physical Education written by me! (aka Audriana) This week in gym class we did group warm-ups. We also did soccer and we played games/activities. We did maniac and the zoo. It was a really exciting week!
News from the Art Department (By Avery): Hi my name is Avery and I am going to be telling you what we did in art this week. This week We were working on our dragon eyes and everyone was working hard and they are turning out really good. So what we do is draw an eye and a pupil that isn’t real and we only use special pencils. Its really cool. And that is it, now to Greta.
Free Choice Area (By Greta): Hello my name is Greta. I am going to explain what Chuckisms are. Chuckisms are basically jokes that give you “Chuckles”. If you didn’t figure this out already, Mr. Singer’s favorite actor is Chuck Norris. One of our Chuckisms was, “ Chuck Norris won a staring contest against a statue.” Well that’s all from me today. Bye!
Teacher's Corner (By Mr. Singer): Welcome back to summer, I guess. Who knew we would get a streak of 80s in mid September. Well, maybe you did, however I never expected it. What a treat. GO PACK!
This week the students really got into the learning for this year. Our expectations have been set and we are modeling what we should be doing in class. Students are learning how to get into routine and complete work in a timely manner. Next week I hope goes even better than this week.
Coming up in a few weeks will be our first APTT night at Trailside. We sent an informational letter on APTT at open house and will be sending another letter of specific dates. Our first night will be Tuesday, September 26th at 6pm. Mrs. Topp and I will be working together with all 6th grade families on this journey. This is our first year as a school participating in this program. If you want to research APTT more, go to the APTT DPI website.
This week we began our ALICE trainings for the students. Our district safety committee has put together trainings for us to do each week with the students for 15 minutes. Starting next week we will be sending home a brief summary of the lessons, I will also be putting the same form on here too. This week I have sent home a copy of the ALICE glossary so you are aware of the words I, or your students, use.
