Teacher's Corner (By Mr. Singer): Happy March to you. Today marks the end of the second trimester. As of Monday only ⅓ of the school year is left in 6th grade. After that it is on to middle school and before you know it high school will be knocking at your door. Being that it is the end of the trimester, report card grades for second trimester should be “live” next week to look at online. We have to collect any missing work from those who were sick or gone this week, add comments to the report card, and collect any notes from intervention support staff, etc. I will send out a message when the grades are ready. I will then be tracking progress of checking Skyward to ensure everyone goes on to review the grades of their students.
Starting this weekend the students will be participating in the Idita-read, the last great reading race. Students will be expected to read as fast as the musher they chose can run. For every three miles a musher travels each student is expected to read one page in an appropriate reading level chapter book. Each day we will track the progress of each student and musher. We will be asking that at home parents make sure the kids are reading and initial their sheet each morning. If a student does not have initials three times in the race, they are out of the running. The team from each class with the most points collected will receive the big purse of money for the competition. For more information check out the forms coming home tonight and ask your students to share more of what we are doing in the Iditarod unit.
For upcoming important dates, including days off, PTO events, etc. go to our Calendar. This coming week is very busy with PTO events. Next week will be our March PTO meeting and the week after will be movie night.
Make sure you are staying connected with our Remind alert system and following the class on Twitter. Find both feeds shown on our website, www.mrsinger.weebly.com. If you are not signed up on either you can do so on the website. Contact me if you have any questions on doing this. I have also added pictures to our pictures page too.
Remember to check the assignment notebook board daily for homework updates.
BONUS: Since the Iditarod is approaching at the start of March it is time to give you some weekly trivia about the “Last Great Race.” In 2015 the Iditarod race had to do what for only the second time in all the runnings of the Last Great Race? An answer by Monday by email or in the assignment notebook, or in a note form, will earn you or your student $50! Good Luck!!
