Teacher's Corner (By Mr. Singer): March madness does not just go with basketball in March, but in school too. This month will be busy and action-packed. The only thing that would make that better would be some warm weather again. Oh well, as I type this the temperature in Galena, AK is -33 degrees without the windchill. 20s seems pretty good.
Wish a happy birthday to Chuck Norris today.
Forward exam is coming up soon. Forward is the state test that replaced the WKCE that all of us remember from our days in school. The last week of March will be the reading test done with Mrs. Krueger and math will be done with me the first week of April. We will begin the state test preparations next week to practice for what they will be tested on, but also how the test will look and how to use the tools.
Thursday you should have received a yellow letter from the school, however I see a few sitting on the tables in the class now, explaining that we will be taking a school climate survey. We want to get feedback from the kids on how they think the climate is at Trailside. The survey is 11 questions. Please review the letter and if you do not want your child to take it, let us know by returning the bottom part of the paper.
With the expectation of middle school around the corner we are going to NOT have the kids sign their assignment notebooks. If you want to send us notes in the assignment notebook still that is fine. It will be the student’s responsibility to get it to us.
We are about a week into the Iditarod. We have two students who have got no signatures and are now out of the competition, but we are still strong with the rest. Keep the kids reading the week to keep up with their mushing fantasy racers. Students will be expected to read after school until the next school day which will be Monday. Every page they read equals three miles to the musher’s speed. Please help by initialing their score sheet every night. There will be cash on the line for the kids too. 1st place will get $500, 2nd will get $300, 3rd will get $250, 4th will get $200, 5th will get $150, 6th will get $100, and 7th will get the red lantern and $50. If the team picks the winning musher for the Iditarod they will get a $100 bonus. If their backup is the winner they get a $50 bonus.

Make sure you are staying connected with our Remind alert system and following the class on Twitter. Find both feeds shown on our website, www.mrsinger.weebly.com. If you are not signed up on either you can do so on the website. Contact me if you have any questions on doing this. I have also added pictures to our pictures page too.
Remember to check the assignment notebook board daily for homework updates.
BONUS: Each week I will put a challenge on here for any parent or student to try. All you have to do is give a response by Monday in the assignment notebook for me to see. If the answer is correct the student will receive $50 towards their checking account. Good Luck!
Now that the Iditarod started, it is probably time to pull out a few Iditarod trivia choices. Who holds the record for the fastest time, what year, and what was the race time? $100 for this one.
